Laundry & Care Tips for Long-Lasting UPF 50+ Sun Protection
At Kidz Swimmers, we believe in fun-filled, sun-safe adventures. Our vibrant, UPF 50+ swimwear is specially designed to protect your child’s delicate skin from 98% of the sun’s harmful rays. How you care for your swimwear plays a big role in maintaining its sun protection, stretch, and colour?
Here’s your simple guide to keeping your Kidz Swimmers gear in tip-top condition - so your little ones can keep splashing safely all summer long!
🧺 1. Rinse Immediately After Use
Salt, chlorine, sunscreen, and even sweat can break down fabric over time. As soon as your child is done swimming, rinse their swimwear in cool, fresh water - even if you can’t wash it straight away. This quick step helps preserve the integrity of the swimwear.
🧼 2. Hand Wash Gently
Machine washing may seem easier, but it can weaken the fabric fibres and reduce the effectiveness of the sun protection.
Here’s how to hand wash like a pro:
- Use cool or lukewarm water - not hot!
- Add a gentle, non-bio detergent (no bleach or harsh chemicals).
- Soak for a few minutes, then gently rub to remove dirt and sunscreen.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
🚫 3. Avoid Fabric Softeners & Harsh Chemicals
Fabric softeners, bleach, and stain removers may seem helpful, but they damage the elasticity. Stick to mild detergent only.
🌬️ 4. Air Dry in the Shade
Tumble dryers, radiators, and direct sunlight can cause fading and shrinkage. Instead:
- Gently squeeze (don’t wring) the swimwear to remove excess water.
- Lay it flat or hang it in the shade to dry.
- Avoid hanging from the shoulders to prevent stretching.
🔁 5. Rotate Between Sets
If your child swims daily or often, having more than one set of swimwear means each set has time to rest and return to its original shape. This reduces wear and tear and helps each piece last longer.
🔎 6. Store It Right
Once dry, store your swimwear flat in a cool, dry place. Don’t ball it up in a wet towel or leave it in a hot car, as this encourages mould and weakens the fabric.
🩱 7. Watch Where They Sit
Rough pool edges, concrete, and pebbles can snag or wear down the fabric. Pop a towel down before they sit to protect both their bottoms and their swimmers!
🌈 Make It Last – Keep It Bright
Our UPF 50+ swimwear is made for sunny fun - but with a little TLC, you can extend its life, keep colours vibrant, and ensure it keeps shielding your child from harmful rays.
By following these care tips, you’re not just preserving your swimwear - you’re also making a sustainable choice and getting the very best out of your Kidz Swimmers gear!
